Everyday all year have Downy Woodpeckers eating a few feet from my chair. They are very nice little birds, get really tame.
Today in the yard saw this Hairy Woodpecker pecking on a Cherry Tree. I did not have my bird lens out here, but this is good enough to ID the bird.
It can be hard to tell them apart if only seeing one or the other. The Hairy is a little bigger, but the main thing is the much longer bill.
