I had a visit today from a female Rose-Breasted Grosbeak. She was really hungry. I did not get a good photo but I lifted this one from the Cornell Bird site.

As I am who I am, keep a non-accurate list of when birds first arrive and when they leave. After a few years you can see a trend.

Two favorites for Winter are my thousand Chipping Sparrows and my dozen Pine Warblers. Lot of photos are on YardCrap Birds with more to come.
As I live at the "Blue Ridge" can and do see both at any time of year.
Winter is different as many arrive and stay with me all day everyday.
Summer is fun but pales as to Winter when food is less in the woods.

The Chippers eat only millet, and I buy that in bulk from the feed store.
The Warblers prefer my peanut butter/corn meal mix.

My records show they will arrive in maybe 10 days or less. That excites me.

Chipping Sparrows, White-throated Sparrows, Pine Warblers, and Red-breasted Nuthatch have arrived and added to the mix at my place for the Winter.
Lots of Finches have returned from the woods.
    The porch is jumping.
