    Cool Lunatic Contest

    Lunatic Contest

All College Football Games are interesting, especially the early ones.
To pick winners now are what the "so called" experts get paid to do, and history shows they are often wrong.
What chance do you mortals have? We say a lot if you go with "MOON POWER".
Us Gnomes love a good Moon.

    Mooning-Gnome.jpg

Here are some early games that hold interest to some here:

    Army vs Duke-12
    UNC vs Cal-5
    TN vs WV-10
    Miss vs TT
    Wash vs Aub-3
    Mich vs ND-3
    LSU vs Mia-3
    VT vs FS-6
    USuCK vs Ga-17
    USC Vs San-7
    Texas A$M vs CLEMSON-10

    moon1.jpg

Normal rules we have used in FF Contests apply.

E X C E P T as this is way too early and just SUMMER FUN - and some of yall in the past (not TOAD) just mirror Vegas -> early picking gets rewarded as follows:
--Picks made before the Strawberry Moon rises gain 3 points.
--Picks made before the Buck Moon rises gain 2 points.
--In both cases, not for each game pick but a total of 2 or 3 points.

    moon.jpg

Winner gets a statue of a legendary Gnome.

Cut off time is before the 2018 Sturgeon Moon rises in order to give Ed some extra time as his time zone is not normal.

    My "way too early" thinking:

Army vs Duke-12 Duke is not a bad team and has a very good coach. Army has been improving. This game is at DUKE but they have no home field advantage as football is too violent for duke students. Duke should win as they have the better team, but 12 points is a lot of points.

UNC vs Cal-5 I am not a fan of either school. Still this is an interesting game. It is played in Cal. UNC always has a ton of talent, but seldom a team. Is this the year?

TN vs WV-10 I think TN is moving up and WV down, but I need to see something.

Miss vs TT Miss has been cheating like hell for years. TT is called the Red Raiders - who would not go with that?

Wash vs Aub-3 Washington is in the position few are due to having a good team and a good schedule. They can make it to the FF even if they loose this game. I think they loose. The Pac 12 is more finesse and always has problems with teams from the South who like to hit.

Mich vs ND-3 I am not a fan of either. Both have talent. Both have a lot to prove. ND is getting 3 for home field advantage. Each year Mich under Harbach is supposed to break out and be dominate. When it happens, wake me up.

LSU vs Mia-3 I am not a fan of Miami, but do like their coach. They have talent. For some reason this game is in Texas. Miami has no home field advantage and LSU has a huge one. Calling this game is hard, but as I am on record in love with the best CFB act in the nation (The Golden Girls) and believe they will have the Texas crowd all in for them. Actually the crowd will be many LSU fans and maybe a dozen from Miami as they dont even travel to their own stadium.

VT vs FS-6 Sorry Steve, just don't believe VT has the talent (no matter their preseason rank due to schedule).
FS has a ton of it and then some. If this game were in Nov, might go with VT.

USuCK vs Ga-17 I don't believe Ga can cover 17, but I refuse to ever pick USuCk. This was an easy pick for me. I hope Ga wins by 50 like USuCk history with the Tigers.

USC Vs San-7 I believe Sanford will win the Pac 12. I know - how silly am I? I don't bet $$ on sports as I would quickly be bankrupt.

Texas A$M vs CLEMSON-10 All know is if the line was 100, I would go with my TIGERS. Tex has talent and a coach. He is not just any coach, but extremely well paid to produce. No coach or fan knows Clemson better than him. They have their famous "12th man", but the Tigers are used to being on a big stage. I hope TEX wins every game after they loose to the Tigers, but I hope that for every team we will play.

Are we picking straight-up or are we including the points spread?

8 Virginia Tech (My Alma Mater and my son is currently a student - I am paying out of state tuition -Blacksburg is an awesome place - we are rebuilding and we will be challenging Clemson in two years - we used to kick Clemson's ass, but they got a great coach and awesome talent - they will win the National Championship this year) - (I attended law school at Wake Forest - a great school and the smallest enrollment of any school in a Power 5 Conference - Wake is awesome!)

I agree that Clemson has lost to VT (and to most teams) and will again. To say "we used to kick Clemson's ass" makes it sound like VT has won most games.

    That is not true.
The stats are 22-12-1 with the TIGERS on top.
Clemson has won the last 5 games going back 10 years.
Go back 20 years and the record is 14-6 for the Tigers.
5 of VTs 12 wins came before 1925, is that even relevant?
    http://www.winsipedia.com/virginia-tech/vs/clemson

I always pull for VT when not playing Clemson. I am a long time fan of Beamer and Foster.
This season VT has good team and a very managable schedule.
There is no reason for them not to make the ACC Championship.

The hardest game may be the first @ FS.
They get ND and Miami at home late so the the team should be jelled by then.

Can't argue with the facts. VT lost several good defenders to the draft - including the Edmunds brothers - both taken in the first round - I was surprised that Tim Settle left - he is a beast - I know that Clemson's defense is stellar. I believe that VT is on the rise in the post-Beamer era - you should be proud of Clemson
