    Killdeer

I have seen some Killdeer while running this week. They are unique birds that try to distract and lead you away from their nests. They will run along the ground and then appear to be injured and when you come closer, they run a little further and act injured again. They nest in open areas and lay their eggs on the ground in the open. The eggs are camouflaged and hard to see. You can't help but feel sorry for them when they put on this display but it is amazing nature!

I found a short video showing this behavior,

You probably have too much vegetation. They are usually found in open areas.
