    Party questions

My Bride got invited to a lake party by Fenders, so I tagged along for the free beer.

1 - when do Humming Birds leave?
2 - where are the Gold Finches

Humming Birds do not all leave at once. They decide to leave by judging the amount of light in a day, not temperature. Also, they do not all leave at once. They do not migrate in flocks, each one makes the trip alone as unlike bigger birds, they are too tiny to benefit from drag. They stop along the way for food they can find as the energy demand is very high for a trip to South America. Imagine, a tiny bird just hatched last month will soon attempt a solo trip that seems impossible. Soon from the North (no matter where you live) these incredible creatures will be coming by your place hoping there is some fresh (not fermented) food in your feeder.

Gold Finches are late nesters. Unlike most birds, they feed the young seed, not insects so they wait until the wild seeds are ripe.
Also, many birds do more than one brood. (Cardinals, Blue Birds, Doves, Robins, etc)
