Not me

Thu, 15 Feb 2024 22:26:10 GMTA few years back I was adopted by Eugenia.
My neighborhood has an abundance of 'Fishing Crows'.
Crows are very intelligent. Eugenia can recognize me. She sometimes screams at me (hence her name). She can mimic any bird, cat, sound, etc.
Before landing nearby she will mimic a cat or hawk to clear the yard. She don't eat at the feeders, but I do keep out some suet balls for her. She don't eat much, just likes to visit.
One neighbor put out poison as they believe Crows make their property less. In fact, they clean up carrion on the lake, and make it better for us all. Those neighbors don't talk to me now as they believe I stole their critter "murder trap" where they let animals suffer and die.
I did not, but I applaud the girl who did. She is a heroine to me.

Some days the Southern Flicker visits, and most days in Winter the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker is about. In Summer have the Red-headed Woodpecker.
The largest and loudest in this area is the Southern Pileated Woodpecker, known to us cartoon loving kids of the 50's as Woody Woodpecker. It does not come to my feeders, but does show from time to time. Most any day it can be heard in this neighborhood due to being extremely loud.
A male came today as I rested with a cold one on the porch. This is not too bad a photo considering hand held and the distance. It is good enough to ID the bird which is always my goal.

Sat, 25 Nov 2023 22:15:45 GMTOutside watching football and two birds I don't see often from my chair yard showed.
First was a Northern Flicker, beautiful woodpecker that tends to hang out in the front of my home.
Then Woody Woodpecker (Pileated Woodpecker) showed to act out and was joined by a friend, so had two of them.

Sun, 05 Nov 2023 18:40:08 GMTI am sitting here playing Dwight too loud and looking at Eugenia.
Too say the least, she is impressive. Smart, brave, beautiful.
She don't sneak in, instead screams at others to vacate. Most don't as they know her. Sometimes my Blue Jay screams at her, both of them will imitate the call of a hawk to intimidate.
I lost all respect for Andy and Barney after they went to the dump to kill Crows for fun.

The list was 22 years old. I lost that book and most of the photos.
I have started a new list.
I am up to 17 with photos of all.
This is a good time to start as Fall migration is underway.

Finally...As some know, my favorite thing for many years has been to sit in my birding shelter with cold beer and music.
I lost that a year back.
Finally after a year of planning, got the first board up.
This one will be about 12X12 with all the goodies of the one I lost.
It will be a lot of work for an elderly lazy guy, but I have to try.
