On the porch with Rosey and just heard an unmistakable sound ->
Humming Bird. :surprise::surprise::surprise::surprise:

Here they are a week early. I have been writing down when they arrive and depart since the 90's and never had one in March. Maybe they were here, but I did not see them. (see my old posts)

I put out maybe a dozen feeders last weekend.

Get yours out today.

(please)

Our first Hummingbird of the year made an appearance on the feeder this afternoon just before dark.:adoration:

I had to switch over from my 8oz feeders to the quart ones. The HBs are finished breeding and are trying to fatten up for migration.
The babies are tiny, but have to grow quickly to survive the trip
Make sure your feeders are full, do it now.

The end of year hummingbird migration / wars are just starting here.

The problem is, this little fellow below thinks the whole yard belongs to him.
When not resting at his guard post he is buzzing about trying to chase all the many other hummers out of the yard.

It is getting dangerous to walk near the feeders.

I encountered the strangest thing this week at the hummingbird feeder. I had noticed no hummingbirds for several days, so I went to change out the "food" & noticed a HUGE black & white hornet had set up camp on the feeder & was running off anything that approached (including me). One well-placed shot of wasp & hornet killer & the feeder is open for business once again~

Good photo Toad.
I came to the conclusion all that fighting is to condition the young for the long flight ahead of them.
I spread a few feeders where one can't watch them all.

So where are they?:eagerness:

My feeders are up, and it was 80 degrees the last two days.

My peach tree is blooming, my apple and pear trees are blooming, the baby's breath mom planted is like a white waterfall.

It just has to be Hummer Time!:excitement:

If you don't have your hummingbird feeders up yet, it is time to dig them out.:encouragement:

AO, I bet I see one before you do.:positive::biggrin-new:

Generally they show up here near the first days of April. If you recall, last year first arrival for us was March 31st.

I'll take that bet. First one to see one and post about it.
